Papers, 1858-1880.

Includes a diary; notebook; and report of a talk. Diary begins with ten-page reminiscence written in 1858. Sporatic diary entries are dated 1858-1897. Notes are interspersed throughout volume, some of which date as late as 1885, after Elisha's death. Volume also includes two pages of minutes to a high priest's quorum meeting held 23 October 1860, presumably in Sanpete County; and several pages listing family names. Notebook, without covers, contains financial entries dated about 1872-1880. Last item is a seven-page handwritten report, by James E. Talmage, of Karl G. Maeser theological class lecture at Brigham Young Academy, 24 March 1879, on a verse from Alma in the Book of Mormon, concerning priesthood. Verso of last page of report includes financial notations, plus, written in ink, "Mr. E. Jones, Heber City."

Born in Ohio. Married Margaret Talbott in 1831. Both were baptized into Mormon Church in about March 1847 in Ohio. Traveled to Winter Quarters, Nebraska, 1847; Kanesville, Iowa, 1848; and Utah, 1850. Worked as a farmer and blacksmith, and served in ecclesiastical and civil positions. Lived in the following places in Utah: Provo; Sanpete County, near Mt. Pleasant; and Heber. Karl G. Maeser was the second principal of Brigham Young Academy and served from 1876 until 1892.
